Fashion is not limited to
high-end brands that are very popular in the industry. It is more of a display
of self-expression than one of wealth and grandeur.
Being a teenager, it’s quite hard for me to
invest in clothing. Since I’m already invested in skincare, it’s even harder.
By the way, here are the reasons why I’m into skincare:
- Skin care products are THE BEST INVESTMENT
- I want to work on improving my face and I
BADLY WANT CLEAR SKIN
Since I am on a tight budget, I
consider thrift shops as safe havens. For today’s blog post, I will be
featuring 4 different looks featuring my thrifted clothes from thrift shops in
Pasay and Baguio.
Look 1:
Monochromatic Chic
I am and always will be a fan
of skirts. I made this look easier to wear since it was my go-to outfit–a skirt
and a unique top.
The skirt was from athrift shop around Libertad. I got this one for only 140 pesos. It was a good deal since the
color, pastel purple, is nice, it has a unique design on the lower line, and
not to mention, the zipper with fancy knots on the puller is cute. If
you know me, you know I always go for the EXTRA ones rather than the basic ones.
Actually, the original price was 150 pesos, but I thought it was still TOO
pricey so my shameless kuripot-ass asked for a discount. I was expecting for a
40 peso discount, but I ended up getting 10 (lol sad reax).
I bought my top, if I’m not
mistaken, last year when I was looking for clothes to spice up my outfit for
our French fashion show. (Hi Burbank!) I can’t recall the exact price but I
think it ranged from 30 to 60 pesos only. This one was from a thrift shop near
Robinsons Manila. Actually, this top was from the children’s section.
Of course, being the impulsive
person that I am, I just grabbed my salmon pink socks and my white shoes. It
felt right, so I just went with it! Also, I finally got the chance to wear my
triangle-shaped earrings. It definitely added an edgy vibe to my outfit! This
type of outfit, I must say, can be worn whenever you want to go somewhere without
feeling too extra or too basic.

Look 2: Tangerine 80's
Can I just say that this one is
my favorite look among all of them (including the shoot I had last year)? I
felt so confident when I was walking around with my brown-lined bell bottom
jeans. This is exactly what I wanted to achieve when I started brainstorming
for this blog post. I felt so alive when I had this look. My confidence was
even more boosted when we had our shoot in Greenbelt because, for the first
time, I ignored a certain group of passersby and just went on doing my thing.
When I checked my photos after
our shoot, I literally forgot that I had thrifted clothes on because the outfit
surpassed my previous branded ones. I am hyped to share this with you all! You
don’t need to spend a lot of money to feel beautiful. Just grab what your heart
and mind says. Wear it with confidence because honey, you are a beaut whether
you have branded clothes on or not.
In one of my previous fashion
blog posts, I said that I’m not a fan of jeans. I think this look turned the
tables. Believe it or not, recently, whenever I go to thrift shops, I started checking
the jeans section! Besides, I wanted to go out of my fashion comfort zone so I
guess this one is a starter.
For the fashion details, I got
the pants from Baguio Wagwagan Center, a place where thrift shops are
everywhere. I bought it for only 150 pesos. If this isn’t a good deal then I
don’t know what is!!!!! The color also compliments my skin very well and the vibe
is so 80’s. WHY NOT BUY IT?
The top was from a Libertad
thrift shop. I think I got it for about a hundred pesos. My undying love for
knots is clearly present in this look. To show off a little skin and to add a
pinch of sexiness, I made a front knot on my tangerine sando. Imagine if this
one was only tucked in, the whole look would be so different. KNOTS ARE LIFE
SAVERS. You should try tying knots next time!
My hair was so perfect in this
look, thanks to my ever-supportive cousin, Lanz Calamba, who didn’t hesitate to
match my hairdo with the vibe of my outfit. To seal my outfit with uniqueness,
I wore my favorite hoop earrings.

Look 3: Sleek n' Fierce
When I wore this outfit, I saw
myself in the mirror, and I felt powerful. I never thought an outfit could
really empower someone like this. I felt strong, bold, and powerful. The whole
vibe is like Shannen actually being a badass. Well, I really am. I was
surprised when we had the shoot, because I did the posing with no hassle. I
never got the chance to wear something that shows off my feminist side and now,
I finally did it! I felt that I was not JUST a girl. I am more than what
society dictates.
My top only cost a hundred. I
knew that it was the perfect top to start off my look. The leggings were to die
for! When my Tita Emily picked it for me, I was glad and started to imagine
what my look would look like. We also got it from the Baguio Wagwagan for 150
pesos, I think.
The look would not be as badass
as it is without boots! Based on my experience, boots really do the magic. It
could make you fierce and unstoppable without leaving your sexiness behind.
My pigtails sealed the outfit,
because it made everything so “Shannen!” The hoop earrings and shades also made
the whole thing work.
Actually, I am planning to
explore more looks that could empower myself and other women as well. I never
imagined that fashion can go this far, and I just gained some knowledge about
dressing up. I wish that you, my dear readers, can experience such empowerment
whenever you put on your favorite clothes because it really brings out
something in you. Clean up your closet, and explore!

LOOK 4: Fearless
This look is pretty new for me.
I’m not saying this is my first time to wear clothes with rebellious vibes but
this is the only time I wore JUST a tube and denim shorts as the inner and an
XXL black jacket without worrying what other people might say.
Even though I am
not-so-conservative when it comes to my fashion style, I still have worries
about people sexualizing a person’s clothing preference. When I chose this
outfit prior to the day of the shoot, I repeatedly thought over the whole vibe
of the look. I was anxious because it might be misunderstood by my readers
until I stumbled upon an article shared on Twitter about other people
sexualizing someone’s way of dressing up. I realized that it’s not my fault
anymore if somebody treats my pictures as consent or as a way for me to say
that I’m “asking for it”.
It’s quite saddening whenever
older people reprimand me because of my way of dressing, or worse, they attack
my parents’ way of upbringing me. Well, my say to that is I am blessed enough
to have such parents who fully support their daughter and want their daughter
to feel beautiful in every way. I do know my limitations and I will not let
anybody stop me from being self-expressive. I am also speaking out for all the
boys and girls out there who are being hesitant of wearing cute crop tops, or
denim bottoms that are 12 inches above the knee. Who are they to stop you from
wearing a bralette and high waist pants in the park? Besides, the temperature in our country is beyond
unpleasant so I think wearing light clothing is very valid.
For the fashion details, I got
this enormous jacket from the Baguio Wagwagan. I bought it for 250 pesos only,
though the original price was 380 pesos!!! Y’ALL I REALLY WANT TO SPEND A WEEK
IN BAGUIO BECAUSE OF ALL THE THRIFT SHOPS THERE.
The white tube with a zipper
was a DIY top. Originally, it was a legging but then it was too see-through so
I decided to remake it into a cute top. Not bad for a first timer, eh?The denim shorts were too
pricey! I bought it for 200 pesos in a Libertad thrift shop, and I actually regret
buying it because it was not a good deal.
Props to my cousin, Lanz
Calamba, because she is so patient in fixing my hair and doing my make up every
time! From a bun to half-hair pulled at the back, from a sweet look to a fierce
one, she can do it all!
